Winter Maintenance Team
Cardiff Council has worked tirelessly to grit the primary routes across Cardiff. Conditions overnight have meant roads are extremely difficult to navigate.
However, the work undertaken ensured that there were no large volumes of stranded vehicles across the network and that people reached home safely.
The work to grit the roads is continuing throughout the day, but as the severe weather continues the impact of gritting becomes limited. Snow ploughs were deployed overnight (this only occurs when snow is over 4-5cm deep).
Due to the unprecedented red weather warning roads are going to continue to be extremely difficult to navigate throughout the day and through the night, therefore we recommend you drive only in essential cases.
All of the Council's gritters are out ploughing and gritting the principle routes. You can see those routes here https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/resident/Parking-roads-and-travel/Winter-maintenance/Pages/Winter-maintenance.aspx
A Landrover and trailer is also gritting the internal roads in Heath Hospital to ensure the emergency services can gain access.
Cardiff's Contact Centre (C2C)
The Council has received a large number of calls relating to council properties and the Council managed to attend to over 100 properties last night to help residents. Given the severe conditions we are now operating on a life and limb basis. We ask residents to be patient as the demand for these services is very high due to the severe weather conditions.
