New place to play

Work to create a brand new play facility for children in Llanedeyrn has been completed.

A new area featuring top-of-the-range play equipment for children aged five to 10-years-old has been installed at Coed-y-Gores, following investment via Cardiff Council'sNeighbourhood Renewal Schemes programme.                                                                                   

The project idea was put forward by ward councillors who identified the need for safe and attractive play facilities to serve the local community and surrounding areas.

The play equipment has been designed to fit in with the environment with a climbing wall and slide following contours of the site, and a fireman's pole adding play value to a retaining wall.

The finishing touches were put to the scheme when local artist, Bryce Davies, completed a vibrant mural, which he designed with children from Llanedeyrn Primary School,

on the retaining walls.

The school children joined Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne and the local ward members at theCoed-y-Goresplay area today to see the finished mural and check out the new facilities.

Cllr Thorne said: "Local children and their parents have watched with interest over recent months as this brand new play area has taken shape and they can now take full advantage of this great new facility on their door-steps.  It's lovely that the children have been able to contribute to the final look of the area - the finished mural looks fantastic and they can all be proud of their input.

"While therewas plenty of green space in this area before, there was nowhere secure with equipment for the children to play so I'm delighted we've been able to invest in these play facilities for children in the community to enjoy for years to come."
