Buzon helps to build one of London's largest roof terraces at The Place
 
   

Neighbouring The Shard, and conceived by the Sellar Property Group, The Place rises seventeen storeys above London Bridge train station to provide 40,000 sq m (428,000 sq ft) of prestigious office space. It also boasts one of London's largest roof terraces. To create this private terrace, 150 tonnes of granite flooring tiles were installed on heavy duty Buzon pedestals. 

The Place is soon to be occupied by News UK's entire London operation, including The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and Harper Collins. The terrace offers spectacular views yet its construction provided considerable challenges for AC PLC, the UK's largest specialist flooring, tiling and waterproofing contractor. 

Buzon pedestals played a crucial role in the successful installation of the custom-cut granite over an area of 1500m²and helped ensure the granite tiles slotted together accurately. The setting out of the pedestal positions was complex and demanded a high degree of accuracy. Aesthetically the lines created by the joints between the granite had to meet exactly and run perfectly through the entire length of the terrace. With pedestals ranging in height from 11mm to 200mm, a number of different Buzon products were used, together with accessories such as rubber shims and spacer tabs. 

The adjustability of the pedestals, and particularly the slope corrector that is part of the system, was crucial as it was necessary to achieve an absolutely level surface to the finished granite, despite the fact that the roof on which it stands has a fall to allow for the drainage of rainwater.
