MexImport brings Laterra Artisan Harvest sauces and marinades to the UK

MexImport, the specialist importer and distributor of quality Mexican food and drink, is bringing Laterra Artisan Harvest’s authentic Mexican cooking sauces and marinades to UK retailers and foodservice outlets.

Laterra Artisan Harvest was created by Mexican entrepreneur Carlos Sanchez Mejorada and chef Ada Valencia in 2008. The business grew from the pair’s love of the Mexican countryside and deep respect for the country’s traditional cooking methods.

Laterra Artisan Harvest foods available from MexImport include:

  • Sinaloa Sauce, a mild Mexican red tomato sauce with fresh tomatos, serrano chilli peppers, sea salt and coriander
  • Michoacán Sauce, a salsa verde or (green sauce) made from tomatillos native to Michoacán. This is the most common culinary sauce in México. The tomatillo, or green tomato, originated in México and its name is derived from the Aztec tomatl. This sauce also contains the serrano chilli pepper, the most common fresh chilli pepper in Mexico

The provenance of the ingredients in these foods goes back thousands of years. For this reason, Laterra Artisan Harvest commissioned food historian Jose Iturriaga to research the history of each ingredient. His fascinating descriptions appear on the packaging of every bottle.

The brand uses all natural ingredients. There are no artificial preservatives and every product is gluten-free. This means they give customers the real flavours of Mexico as prepared and enjoyed by many previous generations of Carlos’ family.

Ada Valencia, head of the Slow Food movement in central Mexico, is a prominent Mexican chef. Passionate about preserving the traditional cooking methods of Mexico going back thousands of years, she collaborates with farmers that use traditional farming methods. At Laterra Artisan Harvest, she creates recipes, both traditional and innovative, using ingredients native to Mexico and sourced locally.

Speaking of the Laterra Artisan Harvest products, Sylvie Perez Johns, project manager at MexImport, said: “Response from UK consumers in pre-launch sampling was really positive. People could tell straight away they were getting the real flavours of Mexico without all the preservatives and characteristics of mass produced sauces - and they loved them. This is a great step for artisan food producers in Mexico as well as Mexican food retailers here in the UK and Europe. These products are ideal for adventurous cooks and food lovers looking for an alternative to Tex-Mex. Laterra Artisan Harvest is authentic Mexican.”

Laterra Artisan Harvest foods were nominated for the Best New Condiment or Marinade accolade at the IFE World Food Innovation Awards 2015.

MexImport’s full product range includes sauces, marinades, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, herbs and spices, cooking oils and agave. The company distributes directly to delicatessens, farm shops and market-leading multiples in the UK and Europe.
