Exceptional response at opening evenings leads UTC Swindon to arrange more at Oxford Brookes University, Ferndale Campus, Swindon, SN2 1HL

UTC Swindon will be giving students and parents the opportunity to discover what the Engineering College has to offer during two open evenings; these come after phenomenal attendances the open evenings have received so far in 2014. The open evenings are being hosted at Oxford Brookes University Ferndale Campus, Swindon, SN2 1HL on Thursday 27 March and Wednesday 23 April 2014 from 6.30 pm until 8.00 pm.

The open evenings are free for everyone to attend. An explanation of the curriculum will be provided by Principal Angela Barker-Dench and there will be presentations from UTC Swindon staff who will describe the specialist engineering education, the types of engineering careers available and how to apply for places.

Angela Barker-Dench, said, "The size of attendances and the response we have had at previous open evenings has been remarkable. It is important in the run up to the official opening of UTC Swindon to capitalise on the feedback we have had by putting on two more events. Our open evenings are a great chance to go through the curriculum with the parents and potential students leading up to the opening of UTC Swindon. The evenings are always engaging and informative events, with the aim to let no question go unanswered."

UTC Swindon will be run by a Trust sponsored by Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells and Oxford Brookes University. There are over 60 different industry partners involved with the University Technical College.

UTC Swindon will be opening its doors in September 2014 and its vision is to be a college where engineering and innovation can flourish. It will cater for 600 14 to 19 year olds interested in pursuing a career in engineering. For these young people, it will provide a fantastic opportunity to gain highly desirable skills and raise their aspirations in progressing to careers in the engineering industry in all its diverse forms.

As part of the original Great Western Rail works, the UTC Swindon site creates a link between the ‘historic engineering' and the ‘engineering future' of the local area.
