Monahans to host the first UTC Swindon business partnership evening

Monahans, one of the largest independent firms of chartered accountants in the west of England, will host UTC Swindon’s first business partnership evening at the college. The event takes place on Thursday 6 November from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

Drinks and canapés will be available on arrival. Principal Angela-Barker Dench will then present the opportunities offered by UTC Swindon to manufactures in the south west of England.

Mike Shawyer, managing partner at Monahans, will also speak at the event. Mike will discuss the benefits Monahans enjoys as a partner of UTC Swindon. Students at the college will be on hand to share their early experiences of UTC Swindon’s vocational curriculum with attendees.

Tours of the £10 million state-of-the-art facility that UTC Swindon occupies will be offered. Part of the original Great Western Rail works, the UTC Swindon site links the engineering history with the engineering future of the area. The Old School Building and the iconic Water Tower feature prominently. Both structures, which are Grade II listed, have been treated sympathetically, with the Water Tower being restored and brought back into educational use.

Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon and the first local resident to win the parliamentary seat, will be a speaking at the evening. As small business ambassador for the Conservative Party, he works closely with small businesses across the country, helping them make their mark on the UK economy.

Looking forward to the evening, Mike Shawyer said: “Monahans has supported UTC Swindon over the past year. We work with many engineering companies in the area, so we are looking forward to seeing the benefits UTC Swindon will bring to industry across the region.”

Angela Barker-Dench, said: “With our first academic year under way, we are looking forward to giving businesses an insight into life at UTC Swindon. The evening will also give students here the opportunity to meet important people in the manufacturing and engineering industries.”
