The Barrowfield Hotel, Newquay is surrounded by historic land marks and gardens, from St Michael's Mount to the Eden Project; there is plenty to see and do in Cornwall. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a short coach trip from Newquay. You and your group can explore over 200 acres house and gardens, with a wide range of plants and wildlife to be seen. Heligan has everything from Victorian gardens to sub-tropical jungle plants.
Trebah Gardens, near Falmouth in Cornwall, is a sub-tropical paradise with a stunning coastal backdrop which is open every day of the year. Here, you will be able to discover the beautiful Cornish valley garden with over four miles of footpath. Explore under canopies bursting with exotic blooms and follow vibrant tunnels of colour that cascade down to our very own secluded beach on the Helford River.
You could also make an excursion to the historic St Michael's Mount, a secluded island just off the coast of Cornwall. There is plenty to see and do from exploring the castle to having lunch in the island cafe. Cornwall plays host to a world heritage site the Heartlands. Just 30 minutes from the Barrowfield Hotel is a heritage site that played a huge role in the industrial revolution. The Heartlands mines are where the steam engine technology was developed.
If you prefer Devon to Cornwall then the Devonshire Hotel, Torquay is the perfect location for your gardening group. Thanks to its mild climate and rich, fertile soil Devon is perfect for gardeners. There are endless possibilities for excursions ranging from visits to botanical gardens to National Trust Houses. National Trust's Coleton Fishacre Garden is just 30 minutes from the hotel. You could make an outing to the ever popular Torre Abbey and explore the wealth of exotic and exciting plants that it has to offer.
Alternatively there are over 20 gardens, within 30 miles of the Devonshire Hotel, which are a part of the National Garden Scheme. Most gardens are open over the summer period; however, appointments can be made for private visits.
The Bournemouth Sands Hotel is situated on West Cliff and close to the historic New Forest and Beaulieu, famous for the motor museum and palace house and gardens, and Exbury, a 200 acre garden set in the forest and famous for its spring and autumn colour and its collection of rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas. In December 2011 the Gardens were awarded the prestigious Hudson's Heritage UK "Best Garden" award. There are many other smaller gardens you can visit in the forest too. Going west from the hotel through the Isle of Purbeck you are within easy reach of Abbotsbury Tropical Garden and Bennett's Water Gardens with its Monet inspired Lily pond.
Daish's Holidays also have hotels on the Isle of Wight and Eastbourne. Over half of the Isle of Wight has a designated area of outstanding beauty, making it a paradise for garden and wildlife lovers. Osborne House, once the home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, is one of the huge attractions on the island. Eastbourne is just a short journey from beautiful attractions such as Bodiam Castle, Hole Park and Sovereign Park.
There are over 18.5 million professional and amateur gardeners in the UK and England is the garden capital of the world. England has more gardens open to the public than anywhere else. There are nearly 800 public gardens throughout the country to visit, as well as the countless private ones that open a few days each year.
Public gardens and parks see around 11 million tourists each year, over 1 million of which visit the Eden Project alone, and the industry is reported to be worth approximately £7.8 billion.
