 Benchwood Kitchens – Backgrounder

Benchwood Kitchens is a designer, manufacturer and installer of premium, handmade bespoke kitchens. Established at the start of 2011, Benchwood Kitchens has showrooms in Cirencester and Cheltenham and enjoys a reputation for craftsmanship, impeccable service and attention to detail.

Benchwood Kitchens was founded by Rob Woodward, who has over ten years’ experience in the kitchen and construction industries. Rob trained with renowned furniture maker David Savage, gaining the skills needed to offer a higher quality hand crafted kitchen.

Working alongside Rob are father and son cabinet makers, Graham and Michael Redfern, who between them, add another 50 years’ experience and knowledge in bespoke kitchen manufacture. Graham Newhook, a joiner and furniture maker, is also a vital member of the team, who has 12 years experience within the industry.

This combination of highly skilled craftsmen allows Benchwood Kitchens to offer a wide variety of free-standing and fitted furniture, enabling customers to create beautiful and truly bespoke kitchens.

Benchwood Kitchens’ end to end service comprises design, manufacture and installation. Customers can choose from a wide range of unique surfaces, textures and colours to create a kitchen of any size, shape or style.

A unique feature of Rob’s kitchens is the ability to keep the frames consistent around the kitchen and not doubling up. The kitchens are constructed in sections rather than individual units, producing a cleaner looking and more durable end result.

Traditional joinery techniques are employed throughout; the doors and frames being hardwood mortise and tenon construction while drawer boxes are handmade with dovetail joints in oak, walnut or maple.

Unlike other companies, everything is hand made by the team in their Cirencester workshop, a rarity in the bespoke kitchen industry.

Once built, Rob and his team fit the kitchens themselves rather than subcontracting to independent fitters ensuring the quality remains throughout. Kitchens are usually fitted in two to three days before being hand finished by a professional kitchen painter.

Rob encourages customers to be involved as their project develops, inviting them to the workshop in Cirencester to keep them updated on progress and demonstrate how the kitchen is being made.

Customer referrals are a key factor to the reputation that Benchwood Kitchens have built, keeping in touch with former customers and sustaining relationships helps to generate new business and acquire new talented craftsmen for the team.

Benchwood Kitchens is a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, which only accepts membership applications from businesses who demonstrate the highest standards of craftsmanship and customer service.
